The Vicariate of East Africa

About the Vicariate of East Africa

The Vicariate of East Africa is a child of St. Joseph which is part of the Order of Preachers, a worldwide order of friars dedicated to preaching Jesus Christ.
The Vicariate of East Africa extends into Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, Angola and South Africa. The friars of the vicariate serve in a variety of ministries throughout this region, undertake missionary work in Eastern Africa, and serve when called throughout the world.

How do we serve?

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our mission is exercised for the salvation of souls and extends to all of God’s people through these primary ministries: preaching, teaching, and serving. See how we live this mission.

Called to be a Dominican?

In every age of challenge, the Lord has never abandoned His Church. St. Dominic’s mission, to preach the Gospel for the salvation of souls, is just as urgent today as it was 800 years ago. Is the Lord calling you to join this mission?

How can you help?

Dominicans are called to contemplate, and share the fruits of their contemplation with others. Your financial assistance helps us to prepare a new generation of preachers and sustain the friars who have spent their lives in service to church.

Dominicans Events

Our Brothers Bonaventure Kambazi O.P. and Christian Rudahunga O.P. are soon to ordained to the diaconate by His Eminence John Cardinal Njue, Emeritus Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Kindly remember them in your prayers. Your support of the event is equally welcome.

The holistic formation of Dominican friars is a priority to enable the Church and the people of God benefit from their broad and nourishing preaching and witnessing.
